You cute.

I can sympathize with a lot of this, and actually, it gives me pause to think about the number of terrific but eclectic writers who are not only trapped in the working class, but find themselves at a loss to thrive.

My guess is it’s because they can’t blindly conform, but that’s way too simple. I do notice that there’s a lot of frustration because their talent set isn’t lucrative, and they’re jammed in employment like square pegs in round holes. Such is the coercion of industry.

It’s the same in music, and I’m lucky to have both writing and music as my life’s double-major, because you get a clearer picture. None of the musicians I ever knew were above the level of middle-management, even though they could pull hundreds to their shows on the power of their music alone. Now, they can’t even afford to tour anymore.

I’ve only, in my forty years, held onto one job for longer than two years, and it was my first adult job. Unsurprisingly, there was always some bug that the diminished managers would get up their ass about me even if I was doing a bang-up job. Supervisors just don’t understand.

I've always found myself with many friends in these same positions, too. It feels so wasteful when you think about all the talent that is just toiling away behind some cash register or something.

Aside from the the photo lab, two years was usually around my limit, too!

Pssst…one more thing: end of your twentieth decade would make you almost two hundred years old. ;)

Just discovered you and I’m a big fan of this series — really has me reflecting on all the shitty or weird jobs I’ve put up with so far in my life. Reading this is true catharsis as I’ve been ass-fucked into changing departments at my job and I’m truly dreading that future

I'm so glad you like it, and sorry you can relate do much, haha. Best of luck with the department switch 😬 I hope it isn't so awful!

> That same manager would later threaten to fire every one of us on the chat floor for breaking out in applause once when the power briefly went out and shut down all our computers.

This person might be the saddest human I have ever heard of.

For real. Imagine requiring your employees to pretend they actually love their wage slavery and are sad to have a brief, unexpected break lol. That's some North Korea dear leader funeral shit

This style of writing is so nice.

Thank you! The job series has been the most fun thing to write so far, I think.
