This is a sort of sequel to my recent essay about unconditional love. You can probably make sense of the events here without the backstory, but click the link below if you want to catch up!

Peter and I were normal friends again now, with the flirtation and occasional sneaky fooling around somewhat curtailed and relegated to the recent past of my arguably morally compromised 2005. I was not so obsessed with him anymore, and anyway, we had recently talked and agreed that we wouldn’t even be good together, if we were realistic, so we’d better just stay friends and not try to take it further once he and Leah finally broke up. It seemed like a foolproof plan at the time!

I mentioned before that he was in a band, but I didn’t mention that the band may as well have been a tiny microcosm of the bank department I would later work for that had HR in it every other week trying to mediate petty disputes between employees. The melodrama encapsulated within this band surpassed that of any other band I’d known in the scene and anyone who knew them knew it was the lead singer’s fault.
